The CSIS Southeast Asia Program and the U.S.-Philippines Strategic Initiative are pleased to invite you to a discussion with The Hon. Carlos “Sonny” Dominguez, Secretary of Finance of the Republic of the Philippines. He will discuss the general state of the Philippine economy, the economic priorities of President Duterte’s administration, the government’s progress in courting foreign investment in infrastructure development, and the current status of economic ties with the United States.

Secretary Dominguez was appointed finance secretary in July 2016. He served previously as the fundraising and finance manager of President Duterte’s election campaign and oversaw the economic agenda subcommittee of Duterte’s transition team. Secretary Dominguez has over 40 years of experience in the public and private sectors, having most notably served as president of the Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corporation from 1999 to 2002, and chief executive of Philippine Airlines from 1993 to 1995. He was also a cabinet secretary under President Corazon Aquino, serving as Secretary of Agriculture from 1987 to 1989, and Minister of Natural Resources from 1986 to 1987.
