William Reinsch Joins CSIS as the Scholl Chair in International Business

WASHINGTON: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is pleased to announce that William A. Reinsch has joined CSIS as the new Scholl Chair in International Business. Mr. Reinsch succeeds Scott Miller, who will become a senior adviser for the Abshire-Inamori Leadership Academy at CSIS.

Mr. Reinsch comes to CSIS from the Stimson Center, where he was a distinguished fellow and worked principally with the center’s Trade21 initiative. He continues to serve as a senior adviser at Kelley Drye & Warren LLP.

“Bill is widely respected in the field of trade policy as a source of sound, trusted advice and insights,” said Dr. John J. Hamre, CSIS president and CEO. “Today, the challenges of a changing world economy are at the forefront of national concern. Bill has emerged as a critical voice and leader in this conversation, and we are honored to have him join us at CSIS.”

For 15 years, Mr. Reinsch served as president of the National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC). Mr. Reinsch led the NFTC’s efforts to advance global commerce with dynamic trade policies that foster an open, rules-based international trade and investment regime. From 2001 to 2016, Mr. Reinsch concurrently served as a member of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.

Prior to joining the NFTC, Mr. Reinsch served as the under secretary for export administration in the Department of Commerce. In that position, he administered and enforced the export control policies and antiboycott laws of the U.S. government and monitored the condition of the nation’s defense industrial base. Prior to taking this position, Mr. Reinsch spent twenty years on Capitol Hill, from 1973 to 1993, most of them as a senior legislative assistant to the late Senator John Heinz and subsequently to Senator John D. Rockefeller IV.

He received a B.A. in international relations from Johns Hopkins University and an M.A. from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
