Al-Qaeda, ISIS, and the Salafi-jihadist Threat in Syria
As the Islamic State's control of territory continues to decline, al-Qaeda has attempted to resurge and reposition itself at the center of global jihadist activity. Syria has been perhaps its most important prize. The Transnational Threats Project hosted an off-the-record roundtable discussion and debate on al-Qaeda and the Islamic State's current situation in Syria and their future prospects in the country.
The event's main panelists included Christopher Costa, Bruce Hoffman, Charles Lister, and Seth Jones.
The Transnational Threats Project (TNT) recently completed a report on Al Qaeda's activities in Syria, which can be found here.
This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
