Jennifer Dabbs Sciubba

Senior Associate (Non-resident), International Security Program

Dr. Jennifer D. Sciubba is a leading expert in the field of political demography. Her research focuses on the political, social, and economic implications of population trends, and she has a particular interest in population aging. Her current book project describes how population trends shape our political, economic, and social worlds and is forthcoming with W.W. Norton in 2022. Dr. Sciubba is currently the Stanley J. Buckman Professor of International Studies at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, one of the nation’s leading liberal arts colleges. In addition to her affiliation with the Center for Strategic and International Studies, she is a global fellow with the Environmental Change and Security Program at the Wilson Center. Dr. Sciubba has studied at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany, and is a former demographics consultant to the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Policy). She is the author of The Future Faces of War: Population and National Security (Praeger Security International, 2011) and editor of the forthcoming A Research Agenda for Political Demography, to be published by Edward Elgar. Her research has appeared in multiple academic journals, including International Interactions, International Area Studies Review, Journal of Human Rights, and Orbis: A Journal of World Affairs. Dr. Sciubba is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and Phi Beta Kappa. She received her Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Maryland and her B.A. from Agnes Scott College. Her courses at Rhodes College include Population and National Security, Global Ecopolitics, Comparative Ecopolitics, The Politics of Migration, and the Environment and Society.
