Alexander Parets is senior director and head of sanctions compliance and screening at Capital One. Prior to this role, he served as chief of staff and counselor to the Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence and coordinated the implementation of recommendations from Treasury’s 2021 Sanctions Review. He previously served as Treasury’s sanctions attaché for South America and the Caribbean, as the director for threat finance and sanctions at the White House’s National Security Council, as a senior sanctions policy advisor at the Office of Foreign Assets Control, and as a senior manager and political economist at a risk advisory and analytics firm. He earned his master’s degree in international political economy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Marquette University. He lives in Washington, DC with his wife, Mallory, and son, Zachary.
