Balawant Joshi is a founder, promoter, and managing director of Idam Infrastructure Advisory Private Limited. Balawant began his career with Tata Power and has worked with many organizations, including ICRA Advisory and Deloitte. He was director for energy at Deloitte before starting his own venture, ABPS Infrastructure Advisory, in 2005. He started Idam Infrastructure Advisory in 2013 and Origin Renewables in 2015. Balawant also heads Enfragy Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Idam Infra.

He is an energy and infrastructure expert with nearly 30 years of experience. In the power sector, his experience spans across the entire value chain. He has been extensively involved in restructuring and reforms of utilities, market design, financial restructuring, regulation, financial due diligence, development, information technology processes, and more. Balawant has worked in the renewable energy sector for nearly 20 years and has been involved in several landmark initiatives in the sector. He was involved in the development of the Renewable Energy Certificate mechanism in India, apart from the first Feed-In Tariffs for wind and solar and several renewable purchase obligations. In energy efficiency, he was involved in the design of the Perform, Achieve and Trade mechanism, a market-based mechanism for industrial energy efficiency. He has been extensively involved in institutionalizing demand-side management in India. He is founder and secretary of the Indian Renewable Energy Federation. He is a member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineer (IEEE) and life member of the Computer Society of India. Balawant is an electrical engineer with degrees in both finance and software technology.
