Charles Vallee is research assistant and program coordinator for the CSIS Transnational Threats Project, where he researches global terrorism with a primary focus on the Syrian conflict and al Qaeda’s global strategy. Prior to joining CSIS, he worked as a research intern on the Syria team at the Institute for the Study of War, where he focused on national and transnational salafi-jihadi groups operating within the Syrian conflict. Mr. Vallee also worked as a research assistant at Colgate University, where he cotaught classes on the Syrian Civil War and delivered briefings on the matter to seminars in various parts of New York state. Earlier, he served as a research intern at the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism in Herzliya, Israel, where he conducted research on the Islamic State and al Qaeda’s digital magazines, Dabiq and Inspire. Mr. Vallee holds a B.A. in international relations and Middle Eastern studies from Colgate University.
