Desmond Riley joined the Center for Strategic and International Studies in December 2019 and currently serves as director of development for strategic planning. In this role, he works externally with many of CSIS’s donors, primarily from Japan and the energy sector. He promotes CSIS’s analysis and independent research to help businesses make better decisions about a host of pressing geopolitical issues. Internally at CSIS, he supports multiple programs focusing on Asia and the Energy Security and Climate Change Program, among others. Prior to joining CSIS, he held fundraising and communications positions at Resources for the Future, DC Appleseed, and the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence. He has a deep background in fundraising from foundation, corporate, and individual donors, as well as experience in financial management, board relations, and communications. He holds a BA in English from the University of Virginia.
