Di Cooke is a horizon fellow in the International Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and a research affiliate at the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk and the Centre for the Governance of AI. Her research portfolio focuses on AI threats and governance within the defense and intelligence domains, the open-source intelligence landscape, as well as deception and counter-deception activities in the digital environment. Di has worked on policy-relevant research and activities at the intersection of emerging technology and security across academia, government, and industry. Examples include developing policy guidance materials on AI operationalization and ethical alignment for the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to support its AI implementation efforts after the Defence Artificial Intelligence Strategy was released in 2022, coordinating track 1.5 dialogues on AI risks with the MOD, and advising on open-source intelligence capabilities and best practices in the private intelligence sector. She is currently undertaking a PhD in war studies at King’s College London (KCL) with the Center for Science and Security Studies. She also holds an MA in intelligence and international security from KCL, along with an MA with honors in international relations and psychology from the University of St Andrews.
