Federico Steinberg is visiting fellow with the Europe, Russia, and Eurasia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C. He is a senior analyst at the Elcano Royal Institute, lecturer in political economy at Madrid’s Universidad Autónoma, and special adviser to the high representative for foreign and security policy and vice president of the European Commission Josep Borrell. He holds a PhD in economics from the Universidad Autónoma, an MSc in politics of the world economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a master of international affairs from Columbia University. He has been a consultant for the World Bank in Washington, D.C., Ghana, and Bolivia and has worked at the Executive Office of the Secretary General at the UN headquarters in New York. He is also a frequent contributor to the Spanish and international media and has been invited to deliver speeches in more than 10 countries. Steinberg is an expert in international political economy with a strong background and interest in international trade, finance, development, and European economic and monetary integration. His research covers a broad spectrum, and he has published in English and Spanish on topics such as the new dynamics of international trade and the rise of protectionism, various aspects of global economic governance, the eurozone crisis, Brexit, the new global geoeconomic balance of power, and the roots of the backlash against globalization and the liberal world order.
