Michael Klein is a professor at the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management in Germany and a senior adjunct professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, D.C. Previously, he worked at the World Bank (1982-2009), most recently as vice president for financial and private-sector development, and at the International Finance Corporation, as chief economist. He was also chief economist of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group (1997-2000) and headed the unit for non-Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) economies at the OECD Economics Department (1991-1993). Before joining the World Bank, he was active in Amnesty International and served on its German Board (1977-1979) and International Executive Committee (1979-1982). Dr. Klein studied at the University of Paris, Yale University, and the University of Bonn.
