Colonel Nathan "Smash" Lewis is a Department of the Air Force military fellow in the International Security Program at the Center for Strategic Studies. His former position was as the Chief of the Operations and Integration Division for the Joint Staff J-32 Deputy Directorate for ISR Operations at the Pentagon, where he led a 23-member team of multi-service officers, government civilians, and contractors to inform best military advice for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Colonel Lewis also served as the commander of the 331st Recruiting Squadron, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, where he led a team dispersed over 129,000 square miles to conduct Air Force accessions. Previously, he served as an academic instructor at the Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base, and he is also a graduate and former instructor of the 8th Weapons Squadron, U.S. Air Force Weapons School, Nellis AFB, Nevada. Colonel Lewis is an electronic warfare officer with over 1,300 combat hours on the RC-135V/W Rivet Joint and has deployed numerous times in support of contingency operations in four geographic combatant commands.
