Peppi DeBiaso

Peppi DeBiaso has over 30 years of national security experience in the federal, think tank, and academic sectors. As director of the Office of Missile Defense Policy at the Department of Defense (DOD) from 2000 to 2021, he took lead roles in formulating and conducting the 2002, 2010, 2018, and 2021 Missile Defense Reviews. Prior to his role with the Office of Missile Defense Policy, Dr. DeBiaso served as the deputy director of the Office of Strategy, Forces, and Operations responsible for DOD policies for nuclear and missile defense programs and associated defense cooperation with international security partners. Between 1990 and 1992, he served in Geneva, Switzerland, as DOD senior adviser to the U.S. defense and space negotiations with Russia. He also was a project leader with the ANSER Corporation focused on U.S. and Russian strategic nuclear doctrine and arms control. In addition to his public service, Dr. DeBiaso currently serves as adjunct professor in Missouri State University‘s Defense and Strategic Studies graduate program in Washington, D.C., and has held teaching and research positions at California State University and the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace at Stanford University. He holds a master’s and doctoral degree in international relations and national security studies from the University of Southern California.
