Robin Simcox
Robin Simcox served as the UK government’s commissioner for countering extremism between 2021 and 2025. In this role, he was responsible for providing independent advice and scrutiny on the government's approach to tackling all forms of extremism. He advised six home secretaries and served in both Conservative and Labour governments. Simcox is currently a senior visiting research fellow at King’s College London’s War Studies Department. He has previously held positions at a variety of think tanks in both the United States and the United Kingdom. In 2020, he founded the Counter Extremism Group, a London-based think tank providing nonpartisan research, commentary, and policy advice on all forms of extremism. Beforehand, he was based at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., where he ran their counterterrorism research program. Simcox has testified before the U.S. Congress on multiple occasions on issues related to ISIS, al-Qaeda, and associated movements, and has provided oral evidence to multiple British Parliamentary committees. Simcox received an MS in U.S. foreign policy from the Institute for the Study of the Americas at the University of London and a BA in history (international) from the University of Leeds.
