Lt. Gen. S. L. Narasimhan (Retd.) is an infantry officer who has worked extensively on the India-China border and served as a company commander with the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka. Narasimhan also previously served on the Indian Military Training Team in Bhutan and as the defense attaché with the embassy of India in China for three years. Prior to going to China, he qualified in the Chinese language with distinction. Narasimhan has vast experience in counterinsurgency operations. As additional director of general public information, he brought the Indian Army onto social media platforms and handled media relations. He is also a former member of India’s National Security Advisory Board. During his three tenures on the board, he worked on national security issues pertaining to defense and China. Narasimhan was the first director general at the Centre for Contemporary China Studies, a policy-oriented inter-ministerial think tank of the government of India, embedded in the Ministry of External Affairs, for five years. He is presently an adjunct distinguished fellow with Gateway House in Mumbai, adjunct professor with the National Institute of Advanced Studies in Bengaluru, and emeritus resource faculty with Rashtriya Raksha University. He has an undergraduate degree in mathematics, a graduate degree in defense studies, and a PhD in India-China relations.
