Sarah Bast

Sarah Bast is a visiting fellow from the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC). She has spent over a decade in government service, analyzing terrorist threats and drafting counterterrorism strategies. Most recently, she served as a deputy chief in the Center’s Strategic Operational Planning Directorate, which develops whole-of-government counterterrorism strategies, plans, and initiatives. Bast spent most of her career as an analyst covering multiple regions and functions. She is a leader in several NCTC corporate activities, including co-creating and co-leading NCTC’s Aspiring Manager Program for three years and serving as a co-chair of the NCTC diversity committee. Prior to joining NCTC, Bast served as an analyst at the Defense Intelligence Agency, during which time she deployed to the Middle East and spent a year as a briefer in the Pentagon. She holds a graduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor’s degree from Heidelberg University.
