Valerie Kirkpatrick

Valerie Kirkpatrick serves as director of development for strategic planning at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), where she supports the Office of Development and programs across the Center. She brings to CSIS more than 15 years of leadership experience in nonprofit fundraising, advocacy, and external relations. Valerie specializes in working with institutions to analyze opportunities and develop robust partnerships within both the private and public sector. Her career includes roles at CARE, UNICEF USA, Human Rights Watch, the Center for Civilians in Conflict, and American University, and she also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Uzbekistan. She did her master’s work in ethics, peace, and global affairs at American University, holds a BA in religious studies from Asbury University, and has conducted research in Syria, Jordan, Turkey, and Kenya.
