
William (Bill) Klein is a consulting partner with the global strategic communications company FGS Global and is based in the firm's Berlin office. Prior to joining the company, Bill was a member of the U.S. State Department's Senior Foreign Service, serving in assignments in four continents over a 21-year period. He most recently served as acting deputy chief of mission, chargé d'affaires ad interim, and minister counselor for political affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing from 2016 to 2021. Bill dedicated a majority of his diplomatic career to leadership roles at the heart of the U.S.-China relationship. In addition to his position in Beijing, he was chief of the Political Section at the American Institute in Taiwan and acting and deputy director of the Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs of the State Department in Washington, D.C. Bill also served in Ukraine, India, Israel, and Qatar. Before joining the Foreign Service, he worked for over a decade in leadership roles in investment banking in Germany. Bill holds a master's and bachelor's degree from the Freie Universität Berlin and speaks Mandarin, German, and Russian.
