Yoichi Kato is an adjunct fellow with the Japan Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). He is also a senior research fellow at an independent Japanese think tank, Asia Pacific Initiative (API), specializing in the national security strategy of Japan and U.S.-China strategic relations. Prior to joining RJIF, he was national security correspondent of the Asahi Shimbun, a Japanese newspaper. He has served as bureau chief of Asahi’s American General Bureau in Washington, D.C.; as visiting scholar at the School of International Studies of Peking University in Beijing; as visiting research fellow at both CSIS and the Institute for National Strategic Studies of the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. He has also taught national security strategy at GAKUSHUIN University in Tokyo. He holds an M.A. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
