Remembering Bill Taylor

CSIS is saddened to mark the passing of Dr. William “Bill” Taylor, former head of the CSIS International Security Program.

Bill had a curious intellect and a driving commitment to change security policy for the better. He mentored thousands of young professionals who passed within his orbit, here at CSIS and before that at West Point. Bill was a professor at West Point for many years and personally helped build a generation of leaders in the Army.

At CSIS, Bill helped lead the professional development program for young professionals. Bill was a great believer in the power of structured debates as a way to hone insight and strengthen presentational skills.

CSIS is still widely known as a “defense” think tank, and that reputation came from Bill Taylor’s energy, commitment and imagination. He leaves a lasting legacy here at CSIS and in other institutions that he touched in his very productive life.
