Southern Africa
Southern Africa is home to some of the continent’s most mature democracies as well as entrenched autocracies
The region’s governments—many of which came to power at independence or the advent of multiracial democracy—struggle to tackle corruption and inequality and to deliver services to their publics. The CSIS Africa Program is committed to sharing analysis on political, security, and economic challenges in the region. Specifically, the Program’s staff and affiliates produce assessments on the insurgency in northern Mozambique and implications of Covid-19 in southern Africa.
