U.S.-Mexico Futures Initiative
The U.S.-Mexico Futures Initiative reflects the strategic importance of the bilateral relationship between the United States and Mexico. Our premise is that the relationship needs a sustained, high-level, shared vision for where we need to go and how we should plan to get there. The U.S.-Mexico Futures Initiative conducts forward-leaning research aimed at helping to shape the agenda of the bilateral relationship.
The Initiative focuses on key components of the U.S.-Mexico bilateral relationship, including the renegotiation of NAFTA, border security, and immigration.
The North American Free Trade Agreement has connected the trade of Canada, the U.S., and Mexico since 1994. The renegotiation of NAFTA began in August 2017 and will continue into 2018. Recognizing the potential impact of un updated treaty and the importance of North American competitiveness, the Americas Program releases commentaries, reports, and hosts events on a regular basis.
