The CSIS India Chair works to analyze and enhance India's relationship with the rest of the world

India’s central government still tightly controls many functions of the economy. Relaxing these controls can unleash domestic growth and boost U.S.-India trade and investment. The India Chair focuses on pro-growth measures that will help businesses thrive and create employment in both nations. 

India’s 28 states collectively drive the nation’s development trajectory. The India Chair increases the transparency of state-level policymaking and shaping engagement with India’s states.

Few areas of U.S.-India relations have seen as much recent progress as the defense relationship. Over the last two decades the U.S. has become a significant supplier of defense equipment to India, become India’s largest military exercise partner, taken steps to improve inter-operability and coordination, and signed technical agreements to further expand India’s access to high-end American defense technology.
