Geoeconomic Council of Advisers
The CSIS Geoeconomics Council brings together leading economists from a diverse array of large U.S. firms to provide an industry perspective on the issues impacting U.S. competitiveness, economic security, and national security. By integrating real-world perspectives from the private sector to evaluate, develop, and incubate policy ideas, the Council serves as a unique forum for advancing practical solutions to today’s economic challenges.
The Council convenes quarterly at CSIS, where council members are joined by CSIS scholars, industry experts, and policymakers. Recent areas of focus include: shifting global demographics, labor shortages, and immigration; the impact of U.S. economic policies such as investment screening and export controls on U.S. industries; global supply chain realignment; and macroeconomic trends such as housing, inflation, and international investment flows. The Council operates under Chatham House Rule, empowering it to host frank discussions among the many stakeholders in the U.S. economy.
The Geoeconomics Council is supported by the CSIS Economic Security and Technology (EST) Department, which houses nearly a dozen research programs focused on the critical areas shaping U.S. industrial competitiveness and technology leadership, such as: AI and semiconductors, quantum computing, cybersecurity, energy and critical minerals, trade and investment, innovation ecosystems, and economic relations with China, among others.
