The Caucasus Initiative focuses on the three countries of the southern Caucasus: Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. Sandwiched between Russia, Turkey, and Iran; and astride major transit routes for Caspian hydrocarbons and trade routes between Europe and Central Asia, these states occupy an increasingly important geostrategic position. The Russia and Eurasia program conducts seminars and research on topics including democracy and institution building, conflict resolution, and economic and energy-related development.
See the Chechnya and the North Caucasus page for North Caucasus-related program work and information.
