Preparedness in the Arctic
A Conversation with Rear Admiral Thomas P. Ostebo, United States Coast Guard
Developments in the Arctic continue to move forward at a rapid pace with the anticipation of offshore drilling in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas this summer. Questions related to Arctic security, and in particular the critical role of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) in the Arctic, are a focal point of our research. Simply put, is the United States ready to confront current and future security challenges in this vast region and complex operating environment?
We are pleased to announce the launch of a three-part video series examining different aspects of the Coast Guard's activities in the American Arctic featuring an extensive interview with USCG District-17 Commander, Rear Admiral Thomas P. Ostebo. This series examines questions of USCG readiness in the region, including a discussion related to drilling plans this summer, public-private collaboration and international cooperation.
