Global Food Security Program
Provides research, analysis, and policy recommendations that can effectively enhance global food security
Russia’s war in Ukraine has disrupted global agricultural markets and threatened food security for a world already dealing with the increasing impacts of climate change, lingering shocks from Covid-19, and ongoing effects of regional conflict on global food security. Reversing today’s trends in food insecurity requires sustained commitment, creative thinking, and bold action across sectors.
Vision
The CSIS Global Food Security Program (GFSP) provides cutting-edge analysis on the economic, political, social, and environmental drivers and consequences of food insecurity in the United States and around the world, to inform U.S. and global policy on these issues.
CSIS GFSP addresses food and the human condition of food security. We analyze the way food is produced, and the impacts of food production on climate change, water security, and biodiversity; food trade and its role in peace and conflict; and the availability of nutritious food for the benefit of human and economic growth. We also analyze the food security, including the conditions necessary to promote food security and the consequences of food insecurity for individuals, communities, and nations.
