The Rotorcraft Focus Area explores a wide range of issues surrounding rotary wing aviation in the U.S. military and beyond. This effort will seek to capture the views of stakeholders that include each of the Military Departments, Congressional leadership, private industry, and academia in order to foster the broadest and widest ranging conversation possible. The future security environment will be extremely chaotic, uncertain, and likely distributed. When current capabilities are examined, it becomes evident that new platforms and doctrine will be required in order to meet these challenges. At the same time, industry watchers decry the slow pace of innovation and the erosion of U.S. leadership in this key but often under-appreciated area of military capabilities.
