Held by Dr. Eliot A. Cohen, the Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy centers its research on long-term strategic competition, advanced technology and the changing character of war, and issues of liberal democracy and national security. The Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy was established and endowed in honor of CSIS’s first director and cofounder, Admiral Arleigh A. Burke. The Chair honors one of the United States’ foremost naval officers for his service during World War II, his role as a negotiator during the Korean conflict, his continued public service as Chief of Naval Operations, and his steadfast commitment to CSIS, beginning with its founding in 1962.
