CSIS Remembers Guy Ben-Ari (1973-2013)

We at the Center for Strategic and International Studies are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend and colleague Guy Ben-Ari, who passed away suddenly on March 13, 2013, from a heart attack. Guy served as deputy director of the CSIS Defense Industrial Initiatives Group (DIIG). He joined CSIS ten years ago as a research associate and founding member of DIIG. During his time at CSIS he worked on projects related to U.S. and European technology and industrial bases supporting defense. Prior to joining CSIS, Guy was an RA at the George Washington University’s Center for International Science and Technology Policy, where he worked on European research and development policies and European network-centric capabilities. From 2000 to 2002, he was a collaborative research and development specialist for Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. and from 1995 to 2000, he was a technology analyst for the Israeli government.

The absence of Guy Ben-Ari will be felt every day at CSIS. As a deputy director, Guy closely mentored many generations of young professionals at CSIS. Guy was a kind colleague, a sincere mentor, and a truly special leader. CSIS is fortunate to have shared some of his time, and we will honor and carry on his legacy of kindness, strength, and happiness.
