PONI programs provide inclusive, diverse, and creative opportunities for emerging experts to learn about nuclear issues and engage thoughtfully with the nuclear community. PONI also conducts cutting-edge research and analysis on three main topic areas: deterrence and escalation, risk reduction and arms control, and disarmament.

Project on Nuclear Issues

The Center for Strategic and International Studies launched the Project on Nuclear Issues (PONI) in 2003 in order to revitalize and strengthen a community of nuclear weapons experts whose training and background increasingly emphasize multidisciplinary expertise, especially among younger generations.

2013 PONI Spring Conference

The first conference of the 2013 PONI Series will be held on May 14 and 15 at Hill AFB, Utah, the location of the Program Office for the Minuteman III weapon system. Hosted by Northrop Grumman Corporation, the event will feature presentations by rising experts in the field as well as keynote addresses by prominent experts.
