Deepening U.S.-Japan Clean Energy Cooperation

This project features analysis by leading Japanese and U.S. scholars on the key aspects of clean energy cooperation, which underpins the economic security of Japan and the United States.

Japan and the United States have conducted strategic dialogues on energy cooperation for decades, and the two nations are increasingly aligned on the importance of cooperating along the clean energy value chains. Also, both the public and private sectors of the two countries increasingly recognize how clean energy technologies help diversify energy supply mixes, thus strengthening national, regional, and global energy security. Realizing strong U.S.-Japan clean energy ties necessitates greater attention to three core themes:

  1. How to accelerate clean energy innovation
  2. How to foster more secure and resilient supply chains for clean energy technologies
  3. How to unleash private finance for the energy transition

Progress in all three will generate a demonstration effect for broader engagement with other partners and joint leadership to shape the global energy landscape for years to come.

This project was made possible with support from the Government of Japan.
