Environmental Dialogue in the Middle East
Bolstering the prospects of a sustainable nuclear deal in the Gulf.
After years of sharp tensions, Saudi Arabia and Iran reestablished ties. This project sought to seize on rising environmental consciousness in the Gulf to catalyze cooperation between rival states. CSIS identified areas of potential collaboration between Iran and Arab Gulf states on shared environmental concerns as a pathway to help deescalate regional tensions and bolster the prospects of a sustainable nuclear deal. We released our findings in July 2023.
This project is made possible by support from the Ploughshares Fund.
