The past several years have brought immense political transformation across the Middle East. While the Arabian Peninsula has remained largely stable, it has not been immune from changes sweeping the region. Arab Gulf leaders are weighing how to ensure long-term stability in their countries given growing youth populations, the need to diversify their economies, and evolving regional politics. Wary of Iranian behavior and intentions, Arab Gulf leaders are also assuming a more assertive political and military role in the region, with implications for the Gulf’s security framework. The Middle East Program contributes to innovative thinking on issues shaping the Arabian Peninsula’s future through original research and analysis and through events bringing together policymakers and thought leaders working on the Gulf.
