USAID at 50
Commemorating 50 years of progress and partnership at USAID. Since 1961, USAID has been the principal U.S. agency that assists countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty, and engaging in democratic reforms.
As USAID approaches its 50th anniversary, the CSIS Project on U.S. Leadership in Development (USLD) is honored to be a part of this time of celebration, reflection, and forward thinking. USLD will be following the Agency’s commemorative multimedia, engaging in conversations with previous administrators, and writing on the success, knowledge, and future plans of USAID. These efforts culminated in a public event on October 28, 2011 at CSIS, featuring USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah and former Administrators Henrietta Fore, Andrew Natsios, Brian Atwood (by video), and Peter McPherson.
