Gas Market Study Group
Gas markets around the world have experienced dynamic growth and transformational change over the last several decades. For example, the advent of LNG at a scale and cost have made inter-regional gas trade a fast-growing reality. Now natural gas is experiencing a new dynamic shift with the so-called U.S. shale revolution. And, the most recent worldwide resource study by the U.S. Energy Information Administration suggests the global shale gas resource level of as much as 7,299 trillion cubic feet. A future of abundant gas resources could have dramatic and long-lasting impacts on global energy markets. But, this promise of abundance is not a foregone conclusion and warrants on-going and serious exploration.
The CSIS Energy Security and Climate Change Program has initiated a Gas Market Study Group that will investigate major natural gas market developments around the world and provide insights into political, economic, security and commercial underpinnings of these developments. The structure of the group is invitation-only and off-the-record to allow for frank discourse, convening roughly every other month to serve as a forum for policymakers, businesses, and leading analysts to exchange views on the most important issues facing gas markets today. Participants range from public, private, and NGO sectors. To find out more, please contact the Energy Program at energy@csis.org.
