Governance and Rule of Law

Developing an agenda that confronts corruption, encourages accountability, and promotes good governance across the public and private sectors.

Democracy, democratic reform, and inclusive societies are central pillars of the United States' national security strategy. Governments play an essential role in providing the public goods that underpin freedom and prosperity. CSIS's work on governance and rule of law is lead by the Project on Prosperity and Development, the Project on U.S. Leadership in Development, the Human Rights Initiative, the project on Defending Democratic Institutions, and other programs.
