Peter Hays
Pete Hays is a non-resident senior associate with the Aerospace Security and Missile Defense Projects at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). His research interests include space governance, space security, and missile defense. Before joining CSIS, Hays served for 20 years as a defense contractor supporting space policy issues at the Pentagon and for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Previously, Hays served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force (USAF) for 25 years, transported nuclear weapons worldwide as a C-141 pilot, and taught space policy and national security courses at the USAF Academy, School of Advanced Airpower Studies, National Defense University, and School of Advanced Warfighting. He currently teaches graduate seminars on space and national security and science, technology, and national security policy at George Washington University. Hays earned a PhD at the Fletcher School and was an honor graduate of the USAF Academy.
