The Eurofile Live: Are Europe and China on an Economic Collision Course?

October 22, 2026 • 9:00 – 10:00 am EDT

Please join The Eurofile podcast for a LIVE episode on Europe’s hardening economic approach to China.

After years of trying to balance commercial ties with growing strategic concerns, European capitals are increasingly worried that Chinese exports poses a direct threat to the continent’s industrial future. Significantly, Paris and Berlin are aligning on the need to forcefully push back against Chinese industrial overcapacity. Meanwhile, the EU and China have just reached a preliminary agreement to moderate Chinese electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle exports to the bloc.

This conversation will examine whether Europe can protect its industrial base without triggering a broader trade confrontation. It will also look at what a tougher European stance on China means for transatlantic economic cooperation.

Host Max Bergmann will be joined by Ilaria Mazzocco and Tobias Gehrke for the discussion from 9:00am to 10:00am on Thursday, October 22nd, 2026. Tune in to the livestream below or watch the episode on-demand. An audio-only version of the show will be available following the event.
