The Day After the Election: A Fireside Conversation with Former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta

Please join the CSIS Defending Democratic Institutions Project on Tuesday, December 17th, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. EDT for a virtual fireside conversation with Leon Panetta, the 23rd U.S. Secretary of Defense, on the critical role of civics education in today’s society. Suzanne Spaulding, Director of the Defending Democratic Institutions Project, ISP, will moderate. The Secretary will highlight findings from the Panetta Institute’s recent 23rd Youth Civic Engagement Survey on students’ trust in democratic institutions. The discussion will also delve into the impact of the recent presidential election on voters, strategies to reinvigorate civics education and an engaged citizenry, and the urgent need to uphold the rule of law, the Constitution, and the peaceful transition of power.
