Civil Society and Environmental Politics in the Middle East and North Africa
Brought to you by
Environmental degradation, resource scarcity, and climate change are already destroying lives and livelihoods in the Middle East. Despite growing evidence of these challenges, international actors seeking to stabilize the region rarely see civil society as a strategic partner in their efforts.
Please join the CSIS Middle East Program for a panel discussion on civil society groups' potential to advance environmental action and stability in contexts of weak governance and unresponsive politics in the region. The panel will feature Amy Hawthorne, independent consultant on the Middle East, Hajar Khamlichi, North Africa director at the Pooled fund on International Energy, Aly Rahim, program manager for the Global Partnership for Social Accountability and global lead for Citizen Engagement at the World Bank, and Will Todman, deputy director and senior fellow with the CSIS Middle East Program and author of the forthcoming report "Mobilizing for Sustainability: Environmental Civil Society in the Middle East and North Africa."
This event is made possible through support by Bahaa Rafic Hariri.
