CFIUS Reform: Will the Bill Make a Difference?

May 31, 2018 • 9:00 – 11:00 am EDT

Please join us for a timely discussion on the powers of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), and its potential increase in scope if a bill on foreign investments passes Congress. The current bill is designed to expand CFIUS' powers in overseeing foreign investments with the potential to compromise national security. Particularly it is aimed at reducing foreign acquisition of sensitive U.S. technologies and intellectual property, a threat coming mainly from China.

Last year, CSIS hosted a discussion examining if CFIUS needs expanded powers. Our speakers will revisit this topic and assess what differences, if any, this bill will make in the ability of CFIUS to manage the flow of key technologies out of the U.S.

This event is made possible through general support from CSIS.
