Charting Australia’s Path: 2025 Election Results and Implications

May 5, 2025 • 6:00 – 7:00 pm EDT

Brought to you by

The CSIS Australia Chair cordially invites you to a live virtual panel discussion on the results and implications of Australia’s national election.

Australia is holding its national election on May 3rd, and the results will have significant implications for the country’s foreign and defense policy — and for the U.S.-Australia alliance. Australia is facing its most dangerous security environment since World War II, underscored by the PLA Navy’s live-fire drills and circumnavigation of the continent in March. Combined with uncertainty around the Trump administration's foreign and trade policies toward Australia and the Indo-Pacific, foreign affairs have additional importance this election cycle.

To discuss the national security implications of the Australian election, please join CSIS Australia Chair Dr. Charles Edel for a conversation with Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) News Foreign Affairs (Asia Pacific) Reporter Stephen Dziedzic, ABC News Political Editor Laura Tingle, and Sky News Political Contributor and Columnist for The Australian Chris Uhlmann on May 5th at 6 PM ET.

CSIS' Australia Chair conducts independent policy research aimed at strengthening U.S.-Australia relations. The Chair is endowed through the generosity of Pratt Industries.
