Surveying the Future of U.S. Open Foundation Model Policy

The CSIS Wadhwani Center for AI and Advanced Technologies is pleased to host the U.S. Department of State and the Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) for an event on the potential risks and benefits of open foundation AI models. This event will be hosted in person at CSIS headquarters and livestreamed on Thursday, March 21 between 4:00 – 5:00 PM ET.
This event will examine the current global landscape of open foundation models, risks and benefits, as well as potential policy and regulatory approaches. NTIA recently put out a Request for Comment on these questions as part of its mandate under Sec. 4.6 of the White House executive order on Artificial Intelligence.
The panel discussion will begin with remarks from Alan Davidson, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information, and NTIA Administrator, followed by a panel moderated by Gregory C. Allen, Director of the Wadhwani Center for AI and Advanced Technologies. Panelists include:
