Jen Berlin

Jen Berlin is vice president of the Economic Security and Technology Department at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). She helps lead a team of world-renowned scholars providing policy solutions that strengthen U.S. economic and technological advantages essential for national competitiveness and security. Prior to joining CSIS, Jen served as assistant national cyber director for stakeholder engagement at the White House, where she was a founding member of the Office of the National Cyber Director. In this role, she developed and implemented thought leadership and engagement strategies with industry and civil society to shape the administration's technology policies. Previously, she was deputy chief of staff to the deputy secretary of defense and held multiple roles in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. Jen also served as vice president of strategy and operations at the Brookings Institution, where she helped establish its Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technology Initiative, among other strategic initiatives. Her government experience includes senior positions at the Department of Commerce and in the U.S. Senate, including as press secretary to the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Jen holds a master's degree in international public policy from Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies and a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University.
