Expectations for Foreign Policy

On October 5, 2014, Brazilians head to the polls to elect their next president, choosing among Dilma Rousseff (the Workers’ Party incumbent), Marina Silva (Socialist Party), and Aécio Neves (Brazilian Social Democratic Party). In that context, this paper unpacks what can be expected of Brazilian foreign policy under the next administration—whichever candidate emerges victorious—with a particular focus on the U.S.-Brazil relationship, Brazilian involvement in multilateral institutions, and the government’s foreign policy priorities.
