Addressing the Needs of Central American Asylum Seekers and Vulnerable Migrants
Available Downloads
In the last five years, the number of refugees and asylum seekers from Central America has soared, particularly from the Northern Triangle region: El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Hundreds of thousands of people flee every year from extreme violence and poverty, spurred by social inequality, political instability, and expanding transnational organized crime, resulting in gang-related murders, kidnappings, extortion, and sexual violence.
Please join the CSIS Humanitarian Agenda and the Americas Program as we host Kelly Clements, Deputy High Commissioner of the UN Refugees Agency, Erol Yayboke, Deputy Director and Senior Fellow of the CSIS Project on Prosperity and Development, and Ralph Merriam, Regional Representative of the Northern Triangle of Corus International, for a discussion on conditions in the region and both government and civil society responses to the needs of asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants.
Daniel Runde, William A. Schreyer Chair and Director, Project on Prosperity and Development, will provide opening remarks, followed by a moderated panel.
This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
