Book Event: America’s Great-Power Opportunity

July 5, 2022 • 3:00 – 3:30 pm EDT

In his new book, America’s Great-Power OpportunityAli Wyne draws on three years of intense research and dozens of interviews that he conducted in 2020—including with many individuals who now serve in the Biden administration—to examine “great-power competition” as a framework for orienting U.S. foreign policy.  He argues that while the United States will increasingly have to contend with the challenges posed by a resurgent China and a revanchist Russia, Washington should not pursue a foreign policy that is driven by or beholden to their actions.

In this conversation with Kathleen McInnis, senior fellow and director of the CSIS Smart Women, Smart Power Initiative, Mr. Wyne will discuss how the United States can articulate a forward-looking conception of its role in the world, identifying where selective competition with China and Russia might further that vision, but focusing in the main on renewing its unique competitive strengths.

This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
