How Is Security Influence Evolving Across the Pacific?

October 20, 2026 • 10:00 am – 10:30 pm EDT

Over the past several years, a growing number of security arrangements, partnerships, and treaties have emerged across the Pacific Islands region, making it increasingly difficult to track who is engaging with whom, in what areas, and to what extent. To help clarify this complex and evolving landscape, the Australia Chair has developed an interactive tool mapping the region's security arrangements with Australia, New Zealand, the United States, China, and Taiwan.

Dr. Charles Edel, Senior Adviser and Australia Chair, Kathryn Paik, Deputy Director and Senior Fellow, and John Augé, Program Manager, with the Australia Chair, examine the changing security environment in the Pacific and introduce the interactive tool, Security Influence in the Pacific: Who's Competing—and Where?

CSIS' Australia Chair conducts independent policy research aimed at strengthening U.S.-Australia relations. This event is made possible by general support to CSIS.
