Given our need to preserve military capabilities in such a challenging budget climate, House Armed Services Committee Vice Chairman Mac Thornberry has been tapped to lead a fourteen month, bipartisan, bicameral reform effort to focus on some of the larger institutional challenges at the Department of Defense.  He will give an overview of this project, which seeks to eliminate unnecessary acquisition regulations, shrink headquarters staff, improve acquisition culture and review our security clearance process.  Rep. Thornberry will also explain his perspective on why the time is right, what a successful acquisition reform project would look like, and how this effort would be different than previous reforms, outlining some of the steps that he and others plan to take in the next fourteen months.
